September 23, 2011 The City of Victoria Youth Council is collecting donations of clean winter hats/toques, gloves and scarves for homeless youth in Victoria. We are hoping to collect 30 complete sets of these items by October 5th. The donation drive is part of Project Connect, organized by the Greater Victoria Coalition to End Homelessness. Project Connect brings all relevant service providers together for a day to provide services including foot care, veterinary help, medical attention, ID replacement and much more for more than 700 people living in poverty. Each person who attends Project Connect also receives a “survival pack” filled with essential items for the coming winter months, including socks and gloves, personal hygiene items, and other necessities. Other items are also welcome, including: • Socks • Gloves • Toques and scarves (men’s and women’s) • Razors • Toothbrushes • Toothpaste • Deodorant • Chapstick/lip balm • Band-Aids • Feminine hygiene products • Granola bars or other treats/food items Donations can be dropped off to the following locations: BC Healthy Communities: 525 Government Street - Monday- Friday between 8:30- 4:30 p.m. Crystal Pool: 2275 Quadra Street – during regular pool hours Victoria City Hall: 1 Centennial Square – Monday – Friday between 8:00- 4:30 p.m. If you are interested in organizing a drop off location at your school or organization please contact rlitman@uvic.ca For more information on the Coalition, visit our website: http://www.solvehomelessness.ca <http://www.solvehomelessness.ca> For more information on the City of Victoria Youth Council, visit cvyc.net or contact info@cvyc.net |
